Guidelines to ensure a double-blind review

The Old Testament research community is relatively small in South Africa, so that it is not always possible to conceal authorship of an article. Reviewers may guess the identity of the author simply by way of the topic or style! Nonetheless, authors are encouraged to take the following precautions (but remember to reinstate them once the article receives the green light):

  1. Remove all references to yourself as author in the text.
  2. Ensure the file is anonymised when saved (all personal detail removed).
  3. When referring to yourself and work previously done, refer to yourself as “Author” with a date, but leave out the title of the work.
  4. Do not add any grant reference and number to the text if the latter is from your institution.
  5. Do not include any recognition or acknowledgement.

Once the article has been put through the peer reviewing process, the author can insert personal data.
