Guidelines for layout

Length:

  • Article: 7 000 -10 000 words (abstract [150 words], bibliography and footnotes included) = 25 pages with following layout below.
  • Book reviews: see also guidelines for book reviewing.

Page size: A4

Margins:

  • Top – 2.54cm;
  • Bottom – 2.54cm.
  • Left – 3.17cm;
  • Right 3.17cm; 

Paragraph settings: spacing: before – 10pt; after – 10pt. 

Single spacing

Alignment: justified

Letter type: Times New Roman

Hebrew and Greek: Use SBL font that can be downloaded from the SBL website. 

 

Title in Times New Roman bold 19 pt center

Name and Affiliation in bold 14 pt small caps center

 

ABSTRACT = bold italics 12 pt

Abstract text = italics 12

Abstract heading and text: margins paragraph 1.5cm left and right. 

 

Rest of the text = 13 pt (except bibliography and footnotes which will be 12 pt).

 

Headings: maximum three levels: 

A HEADING IN BOLD

1 Subheading in bold

1a Third level heading (without bold) 

  • Further division with round bullets or fourth level with
    1. Numbering in Romans

 

Indentation:

  • No indentation with headings
  • No indentation in first paragraph after heading. Paragraph indentation afterwards at 1.27cm. 

Citations longer than two lines should be indented at left and right 1.5 cm and put in 12 pt. 

 

Footnotes:

Times New Roman 12 pt justified.

 

BIBLIOGRAPHY 

Times new Roman 12 pt no justification

 

Paragraph setting: Hanging indent at tab setting of 1.00 cm.

Paragraph spacing: Before and after = 0 

 

Abbreviations have full stops. Cf.; i.e.; etc.;

 

b.c.e. / c.e. are preferred, but if you want to make a case out for b.c. and ad. You are welcome to use them. However, they should be in small caps.

 

Double quotations marks are used: “…”. Within a quotation single quotation marks are used: “. . .  ‘….’…”.
